KABUL, Nov. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Two policemen have been killed as they came under Taliban
militants' attack in the troubled southern Afghan province of
Helmand, a senior police official in the province confirmed Saturday.
"The police were on patrol in Marja district when Taliban attacked them,
killing two on the spot last night," Abdul Rahman Saber told Xinhua.
It is the second deadly attack in the area over the past two days. In the
earlier offensive, the militants killed the deputy governor of Nimroz province
in the neighboring Zabul while he was on way to Kabul to attend a national
conference on strengthening security in the country.
Another attack by militants left one police dead and six others injured in
the southeastern Khost province Thursday night.
Taliban's insurgency has claimed over 1,500 lives, including rebels, Afghans and US troops as well as aid workers since the beginning of this year. Enditem |
