KABUL, Nov. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- Suspected Taliban
militias in the latest spate of violence targeted a police post Friday night in
southeast Afghanistan, killing one police officer and wounding six other people,
a spokesman of interior Ministry said Saturday.
"The enemies attacked a police post with light and
heavy weapons last night in Bak district of mountainous Khost province. As a
result, a police officer was martyred and six others including three officers
were injured," Dad Mohammad Rasa told Xinhua.
He added that the police also inflicted heavy
casualties on the enemies but failed to give an exact figure.
Remnants of the former fundamentalist regime, who
vowed to overthrow the internationally recognized Karzai administration and
expel US-dominated foreign troops from Afghanistan, have staged a violent
comeback.
Taliban-led insurgency has claimed over 1,500 lives,
including 70 US soldiers, since the beginning of this year.
