Video clip reveals bombers' commitment

JAKARTA, Nov. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- A video clip found by police at Azhari bin Husni's hideout in East Java revealed how his followers were encouraged to commit suicide bombings in Indonesia, Police Chief Sutanto said here on Friday.

"We have found a video clip containing their (the militants') statements about why they wanted to be involved in suicide bombings," he said.

The clip was found during the police raid of the province's Malang Regency, where Azhari was shot to death on Nov. 9, said Sutanto.

The militants proclaimed in the video clip that the holy war they were committed to would bring them to heaven and suicide bombings were just the way to carry out the war.

"They were convinced that suicide bombings were the right teaching, so committing suicide bombings was noble and could bringthem to heaven," he added.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had asked the country's religious leaders and other prominent personalities to use the clip as a negative example to direct their followers to dothe right thing rather than adopt extreme approaches to kill people, said the police chief.

The three suicide bombers who exploded the Raja Cafe in Kute Square and another cafe at Jimbaran Beach in Bali on Oct. 1 were also shown in the video clip, he said.

"The three were all recorded. This indicated that there was a network of terrorists," he said, adding that at the same location, the police also found bomb circuit and materials similar to those used in the Bali bombings.

Azhari and his colleague Noerdin Mohammad Top, who is still at large, are widely believed to lead a group responsible for a series of explosions in the archipelago in the past three years.

The group is allegedly linked to Bin Laden's al Qaeda Network and aims to establish an independent Muslin state in Southeast Asia. Enditem
