KABUL, Nov. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- A Russian style cargo plane crashed about 20 km north of Afghan capital Kabul Friday, and a police officer said no one on board could be alive.
The officer, Abdul Hakim, told Xinhua at the crash spot that the investigation work is very difficult since the plane has crashed into small pieces.
"No one can still be alive in the plane. We just found some body parts of the four or five persons, and we will collect them and the Interior Ministry will take them back to Kabul," he said.
Mohammad Yusuf Stanikzai, spokesperson of Afghan Interior Minister, told Xinhua that the Russian-made AN-12 cargo plane crashed in Khak Shahidan area of Guldara district of Kabul, about 20 miles north of the capital. "There is no report about the exact number of casualty till now," he said.
He added A joint rescue team from Afghan Interior Ministry and ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) have reached the place for the investigation and rescue work, but said the nationalities of the passengers on board can not be confirmed yet.
Ismael, a local civilian who witnessed the accident, said he heard no sound of rocket bomb or other weapons at the crash time.
"The plane was climbing uphill at that time and gradually flew into the cloud. It was trying to change its direction to the east when it suddenly crashed," he said.
Several planes have crashed in Afghanistan this year, including three US Chinook CH-47 and one helicopter with Spanish soldiers onboard, killing dozens of people. Enditem |
