BEIJING, Nov. 11 -- Two suicide bombers blew themselves up inside a restaurant frequented by Baghdad police on Thursday morning, killing at least 33 people and injuring 19, while a car bomb killed seven army recruits in Saddam Hussein's hometown.
The blast echoed through central Baghdad at about 9:45 am local time, when police officers usually stop by for breakfast.
Police said seven police officers and 26 civilians were killed in the blast, and 24 others were injured, including 20 civilians.
A US soldier who was at the scene said Iraqi security forces did a good job of managing the situation.
"Iraqi security forces reacted very quickly and did a very good job of cordoning off the area, sending their (inaudible) team through. The good news story is that Iraqi security forces were very quick to respond and have it very well in hand." the soldier said.
Meanwhile, a car bomb in Saddam's hometown of Tikrit, 80 miles north of Baghdad, detonated amid a group of men outside an Iraqi army recruiting center, killing seven and injuring 13.
