Azerbaijan not to have "Orange Revolution": Russian official
www.chinaview.cn 2005-11-11 02:36:58

MOSCOW, Nov. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- The parliament elections in Azerbaijan held last Sunday has proved to be an accomplished ones, and there will be no orange revolution in the country, a Russian high-ranking official alleged on Thursday.

"The parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan are an accomplished fact. Nobody has any doubts that the real rating of the Opposition is way below that of the ruling party," Modest Kolerov, the chief of the Russian presidential department for inter-regional and cultural ties with foreign countries, told a news conference in Moscow.

"As early as tomorrow the Azerbaijani Opposition will inevitably begin to review its election performance. A change of generations and the ultimate resignation of its leaders will be the main outcome," Kolerov was quoted by the Interfax as saying.

On the same day, Azerbaijani ambassador to Russia Ramiz Rizayevalso said there are no preconditions for "Orange Revolutions" present in Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan is developing dynamically, he said at a Thursday press conference, believing the country has not been provided with the conditions for "the revolution".

Asked about the actions of the opposition after the November 6 elections, Rizayev said that the situation was rather complicated.

"Nevertheless these elections have been a step forward for Azerbaijan. I would even say two steps forward in comparison with what existed before," the ambassador said.

According to him, over 1,400 international observers, including 300 from Russia, had participated in the elections. As of today, election results have been cancelled in seven constituencies.

"Of course there were violations, but such violations could notinfluence the electoral process nor its results," Rizayev said. Enditem
