UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan strongly condemned the terrorist bombings in Amman of Jordan,and called on states to adopt comprehensive convention to fight against terrorism, UN spokeswoman Marie Okabe said Wednesday.

    In a statement issued by the spokeswoman, Annan sent his condolences to the families of the bereaved and to the people and government of Jordan.

    According to the spokeswoman, Annan has taken every opportunity,during his current tour of the Middle East, to underscore the needfor collective action against terrorism.

    "The Secretary-General stressed the need for member states to adopt a comprehensive convention against terrorism as soon as possible," Okabe said.

    Three major hotels in the Jordanian capital of Amman were hit by explosions Wednesday night, killing at least 53 people and wounding over 100 others. Enditem
