JINAN, Nov. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- East China's Shandong Province has vaccinated nearly 200 million fowls, or one fifth of its total, according to the provincial headquarters for control of the highly pathogenic bird flu.

A major poultry raising base in China, Shandong breeds 14.7 percent of the total fowls across the country, with its fowl exports making up 50 percent of the nation's total.

The headquarters said Shandong plans to vaccinate all of its fowls, a process that will last until mid-November.

Meanwhile, the province has done a good job disinfecting its border areas, large poultry farms and areas where wild migratory birds pass. It has disinfected 200 million square meters of poultry farms, fowl slaughter and refrigerating houses and fowl markets, the headquarters said.

In a bid to intensify cross-regional inspection and quarantine,Shandong has established 111 round-the-clock animal quarantine stations on roads adjacent to other provinces, according to the headquarters. Enditem
