PARIS, Nov. 6 (Xinhuanet) -- During the 10th night of mayhem in French cities, 918 cars were torched overnight Saturday compared with 897 the previous night, and 193 arrests were made across the country, French Interior Ministry's operational center said on Sunday.

    Some 2,300 police were deployed in the Paris region overnight and seven police helicopters flew over Paris and some of the other cities to try to pursue and identify the arsonists.

    The unrest spread for the first time to central Paris where 32 cars were set on fire, and another 19 vandalized. Police made 30 arrests in the capital.

    Outside Paris, in Athis-Mons to the west, at least two people were slightly injured and 100 evacuated when an immigrants' hostel went up in flames.

    No one has been killed in the unrest, while several properties suffered fire damage, including a McDonald's, two schools and a gym outside the capital.

    Bus services have been suspended for several days in north and east Paris suburbs.

    Some 570 people have been arrested and more than 2,000 automobiles have gone up in flames since the violence began in Clichy-sous-bois, northeast of Paris, on Oct. 27 after two teenagers were accidentally electrocuted while hiding in an electrical sub-station to flee a police identity check.

    The violence began late last month in Clichy-sous-Bois, a low-income suburb northeast of Paris, after the deaths of two teenagers, of Mauritanian and Tunisian origin. The youths, who were being chased by police, were accidentally electrocuted as they hid from police in a power substation.

    The riots were reported in all around the country from the Mediterranean resorts such as Cannes and Nice to the German border in the north.

    French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said the arsonists would face severe punishment. Enditem
