MOSCOW, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin called for more unity in the federation on Friday, saying unity isa guarantee for the country's invincibility, Russian media reported.
Putin laid flowers at the monument to Minin and Pozharsky on the Red Square in Moscow as the nation marks the National Unity Day, before he met with students of Moscow's Suvorov Military School, St. Petersburg's Nakhimov Naval School and other universities.
While Russians feel unity, Russia will be invincible, Putin told the students.
Asked by one of the students what idea could unite the Russian society today, he said that the feeling of involvement in the state's affairs could play this role.
National Unity Day marks the liberation of Moscow from Polish invaders in 1612. The monument to Minin and Pozharsky was erected in Moscow in 1818.
On December 29, 2004, the Russian president signed the federal law declaring National Unity Day a holiday and a day off. Enditem |
