Forbes Global publishes new rich list in China

    BEIJING, Nov. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The American business magazine Forbes Global published its new rich list in China on Thursday, showing the average wealth possessed by the 100 richest persons inChina went up 38 percent this year.

    Forbes magazine, which has compiled China's richest persons lists for ten years, said the wealth threshold for the list this year is 500 million yuan (61.7 million US dollars), and the number of people listed has been doubled to 400.

    The 200th richest person in China this year has 1 billion yuan,350 million yuan more than his peer last year. The average wealth possessed by the 100 and 200 richest persons in China is 3.32 billion and 2.28 billion yuan, respectively, up 38 and 26 percent year on year.

    Rong Zhijian, possessing 13.3 billion yuan (1.64 billion US dollars) of wealth, is ranked first on the list.

    Rong, born in 1942 in Shanghai, is the chairman of the Hong Kong-based investment company Citic Pacific. In the first half of this year, his company earned net profit of 2.773 billion Hong Kong dollars, up 60.5 percent year on year.

    Second was Zhu Mengyi, a 46-year-old businessman with investments in several listed companies in real estate and electronics, who has a fortune of 1.43 billion US dollars.

    Ding Lei of Netease.com, aged 34, came in third with wealth placed at 1.267 billion US dollars.

    Fourth was Huang Guangyu, the 36-year-old founder of China's largest electronics retailing giant and second largest retailer GoMe Appliances, who has a fortune of 1.25 billion US dollars.

    The 400 richest on the list on average possess 1.48 billion yuan per person, and the youngest billionaire was Li Zhaohui, aged24 and ranked 26.

    Almost half of the magnates on the list are aged below 45. Many of those on the list this year are engaged in Internet services and real estate development.

    This year's list shows that Chinese magnates have accumulated wealth at a faster speed, said Russel Flannery, Forbes' Shanghai bureau chief, who led a team that worked on the list.

    Coastal Zhejiang Province, Guangdong Province, Shanghai as wellas Beijing, the capital, have become the places where billionaires' wealth grows fastest, Flannery said.

    60 billionaires on the list chose to locate their headquarters in Zhejiang Province, 55 headquartered in Guangdong, 50 in Shanghai and 47 in Beijing.

    A large number of enterprises on the list know how to cooperatewith overseas partners and how to participate in a globalized market, he said. Enditem
