BUDAPEST, Nov.2 (Xinhuanet) -- Croatian authorities confirmed thata swan that flew into Croatia from Hungary carried the deadly H5N1 strain of bird-flu, said the Hungarian news agency MTI on Wednesday.
"The swan had been ringed in Hungary before it was shot down last week in the area where eight swans had already tested positive for the H5N1 strain," the Croatian Agriculture Ministry was quoted as saying by MTI.
Last week, six swans found dead in the eastern Croatian Zdenci nature park tested positive for H5N1 and one of them wore the tag of the Hungarian Association of Ornithology and Nature Preservation on the Balaton lake.
Thirteen other swans were found dead later in the Nasice pond near the Zdenci park, with two of them carrying H5N1.
Hungary has reported no cases of bird-flu. Enditem |
