TEHRAN, Nov. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has presented new nominees for four ministerial postsvacated by the Majlis (parliament) veto of the previously proposed candidates, the official IRNA news agency reported on Wednesday.Ahmadinejad announced his new nominees in a letter to Majlis Speaker Gholam Ali Haddad, which was read earlier in the day to law makers at a session.
The four posts are minister of oil, minister of education, minister of welfare and social security as well as cooperative sminister.
Ahmadinejad nominated Sadeq Mahsouli, 47, former deputy minister of defense and senior officer of the Revolutionary Guards Corps, as oil minister, the most eye-catching post as Iran enjoys rich reserves in oil and natural gas, with a revenue expected toexceed 40 billion US dollars in 2005.
Ahmadinejad, who assumed the presidency on Aug. 3 after winninga landslide presidential run-off in June, submitted a list of hiscabinet ministers to the Majlis on Aug. 14 but four of the proposed ministers failed votes of confidence.
Ahmadinejad previously proposed Ali Saeedlou, his long-time aide, to govern the country's most profitable sector, but was rejected by the Majlis, arguing that Saeedlou lacked working experience in the oil field.
Under Iran's law, the Majlis will have one week to approve orreject the proposed nominees. Enditem |
