A car bomb exploded on Monday in the southern Iraqi city of Basra, killing at least 20 and wounding many people, witnesses said.

    BAGHDAD, Oct. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- A car bomb hit a police patrol in the southern Iraqi city of Basra Monday evening, killing at least 20, police said.

    "So far at least 20 were killed, including five policemen, and 45 were injured," a police source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

    "A car bomb exploded in a street at around 21:00 (1800 GMT) as a police patrol was passing by. Six cars were damaged and 10 shops destroyed," the source said. Enditem
