WARSAW, Oct. 31 (Xinhuanet) -- Kazimierz Marcinkiewicz on Monday was sworn in
as Poland's prime minister at the presidential palace.
Marcinkiewicz, appointed by outgoing President Aleksander Kwasniewski, will
head a minority government led by his center-right Law and Justice party.
At the swearing-in ceremony, the prime minsiter promised "to best serve
Poland" as he received his portfolio.
Kwasniewski also appointed Marcinkiewicz's minority cabinet, including
Finance Minister Teresa Lubinska and Foreign Minister Stefan Meller.
The conservative Law and Justice Party won last month's generalelections on
a promise to rule with pro-business Civic Platform asits tally of 155 of the 460
Diet seats on offer was not enough to form a viable government.
However, talks with the liberal Civic Platform over the formation of a
coalition administration broke down last week, which has forced him to choose to
form a minority government. Enditem |
