Urgent: Passenger train derails in India

NEW DELHI, Oct. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- At least 10 passengers were feared dead when a passenger train derailed in Ramanapethm, India early Saturday morning, Press Trust of India reported.

However, a railway spokesman said casualties are yet to be confirmed.

The 18-coach Repalli-Secunderabad train derailed between Ramanapet and Vellugonda stations of the South Central Railway in the country.

While eight coaches of the train capsized, the remaining 10 coaches are still on the track. Access to the train was cut off due to incessant rains and heavy floods in the area.

The spokesman said efforts are being made to deploy personnel for rescue and relief operations as the accident site is not accessible by road.

The accident apparently occurred as the track was submerged in water following heavy rains since Friday night. Enditem
