NANCHANG, Oct.25 (Xinhuanet) -- China's first self-designed helicopter, Series Z11, has entered the public security arena, marked by the maiden flight of its newly modified model Z11J.

With 2 to 6 seats and customized fittings such as searching lights, alarms and electric winches, the Z11J helicopter can be widely used in various public security activities including patrolling and hounding, anti-violence action, emergency rescues and disaster relief.

Manufactured by Changhe Aircraft Industries Group Ltd., one of China's major helicopter manufacturer located in Jingdezhen of Jiangxi, the Z11 series were the first helicopters China independently designed. They are designed as multi-functional light aircraft that are useful both for military and civil purposes.

Modified from a civilian model, the Z11J is equipped with advanced police and army components with high performance. Its maximum take-off weight is 2200 kg and normal cruising speed 220 km/h.

Currently, 4,000 helicopters are operated for police purposes worldwide, only 17 of which are in China. In 2001, China began to use helicopters for police. It is predicted that in the coming three years, the number of helicopters serving Chinese police will reach more than 30. Enditem
