KABUL, Oct. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- The bomb explosion in Afghan southern province
of Kandahar injured 11 Sunday, a local official and a doctor said.
"A military truck full of ANA soldiers was on the way from Maiwand district
to Kandahar city today, when the bomb in a motorbike stop on the roadside
suddenly exploded. Three soldiers were injured," Gen. Muslim Hamid, ANA core
commander in Kandahar told Xinhua.
"The injured have been sent to the hospital and the investigation is still
going on," he added.
A doctor Mohammad Naeem in a local hospital at the same time told Xinhua
eight civilians including two children injured in the explosion have been
accepted by the hospital, which brings the total injured number to 11.
Taliban militants, after failing to derail the landmark September 18 parliamentary
elections, have intensified the attacks against Afghan and foreign
troops.
Kandahar and the neighboring provinces of Helmand, Uruzgan and Zabul
commonly known as the heartland of Taliban has been the scene of escalating
insurgency over the past one month.
Over 1,400 people including rebels, Afghan and US troops as well as aid workers and pro-government religious leaders have been killed in Taliban-led militancy this year. Enditem |
