Earthquake kills 5 in southeastern Afghanistan

    KABUL, Oct. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Five Afghan persons were killed, sixwere injured in an earthquake Sunday morning in Afghan southeastern province of Paktika, an Afghan official said.

    "An earthquake happened this morning in Shinkay area of Paktikahas claimed five persons' lives and injured six others. Six villages of the area have also been partially destroyed," the spokesperson of Defense Ministry Zahir Azimi told journalists in apress conference in Kabul.

    "The medical teams have been sent to the area to help the localpersons especially the victims," he added.

    The intensity of the earthquake is not known, the spokesperson said.

    After the strong earthquake happened in Pakistan which claimed lives of thousand of persons, the aftershocks become frequent thanbefore. In another earthquake, five persons were killed in Afghan southern province of Zabul on Saturday. Enditem
