ISLAMABAD, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- China has fulfilled the relief aid worth 6.2 million
US dollars to Pakistan and an additional aid of 10 million yuan (about
1.25 million dollars) is being dispatched to the earthquake-hit country.
A ceremony regarding the handover of the relief items was held in Cabinet
Division, Islamabad on Friday with Chinese Ambassador Zhang Chunxiang and
Pakistan's Cabinet Secretary Ejaz Rahim signing on the relevant documents on
behalf of their respective governments.
China has donated emergency relief supplies worth 5.2 million dollars in
nine dispatches to Pakistan after the Oct. 8 earthquake.The relief items include
25,000 blankets, 2,310 tents, 7,350 cotton padded mattresses, 23,980 towel
coverlets, 38,000 bed sheets, 1,312 generators, 1,272 emergency lamps, 6,400
buckets, 12water purifiers, 4,000 five-gallon bottles of purified water and 46
tons and 2,840 boxes of medicine and medical appliances, according to the
Chinese ambassador.
On Oct. 13, China contributed a cheque of one million dollars to Pakistan's
President Relief Fund, he added.
On behalf of the Pakistani government and the Pakistani people,Rahim
expressed thanks to the Chinese government and Chinese people. The tents,
blankets and medicine from China are really helpful to the people in the
quake-hit areas, he noted.
Rahim praised the fruitful work of China International Search and Rescue
(CISAR) in the difficult areas of Balakot, most of which was destroyed in the
Oct. 8 earthquake of 7.6 magnitude.
On completing its relief work in Balakot, he said, CISAR has provided the
Pakistani government with a lot of information about the earthquake resistance.
Rahim said that CISAR had set an example for other foreign relief teams and that the Pakistani government would ask those teams to give briefings with CISAR as a model. Enditem |
