JAKARTA, Oct. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale rocked Indonesia's Sumbawa island early Friday, but there were no casualties or damage reported yet, an official of Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency (BMG) said here.

The quake struck at 06:15 a.m. (local time) with the epicenter 140 kilometers south of the island, 9.8 south latitude and 117.4 east longitude, a BMG official Andi Amron told Xinhua by telephone.

The tremor, which was centered 33 kilometers below the sea floor, was also felt in other parts of the island.

Indonesia is located on the Pacific Rim of Fire, where the meeting of continental plates causes highly volcanic and seismic activity. Enditem
