NANJING, East China, Oct. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Zhang Qi of Shanxi had a national record throw in the men's shot put event for the title at the 10th National Games Thursday evening.
Zhang Qi, who set the mark in the qualifying round, tied the best with 20.15 meters in the final.
The 21-year-old, who improved the mark by 0.37 meters in the qualifying, demonstrated his talents in the event. "I am in a good form tonight, but I did not expect that I could break the nationa lrecord, " said excited Zhang.
Zhang tied the record of 20.15 meters to take the gold while Tian Yingchun of Heilongjiang had the silver in 19.25 meters. The bronze went to Jia Peng of Liaoning in 18.99 meters.
"I gained confidence after breaking the national record in the qualifying round, which led me to take the gold," added Zhang.
Zhang had tied the national record of 19.78m last June at the Asian athletics grand prix in Singapore. The previous mark was set15 years ago by Ma Yongfeng in a regional championships in Beijing.Enditem |
