BEIJING, Oct. 20 -- The memorial service for the esteemed Chinese
novelist, Ba Jin, has been tentatively scheduled for October 24th.
Various commemorative activities have already been held across the country.

The Shanghai Writers' Association has prepared a photographic exhibition
celebrating Ba Jin's life, which will open to public soon.
In Beijing, a condolence hall has been set up in the
capital's Modern Literature Hall. Members of the Chinese Writers' Association
and countless readers have already come to convey their condolences.


In Ba Jin 's hometown of Chengdu city in southwest China's Sichuan
province, numerous citizens flocked to Ba Jin's former residence and lighted
candles to express their appreciation for the great writer.
One of modern China's most acclaimed novelists, Ba Jin died at the age of
101 in Shanghai on Monday evening after a six-year battle with malignant
mesothelioma and other diseases.
Ba Jin was recognized widely as one of China's greatest modern cultural
masters and an outstanding publisher and editor.
His main works including "Family", "Spring", "Autumn", "The Trilogy of
Love", "A Dream of Sea" and "Autumn in Spring" were viewed as landmarks of
modern Chinese culture.
