URGENT: Bird flu spreads to European part of Russia

    MOSCOW, Oct. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Russian veterinary authorities confirmed Wednesday the bird flu virus has been detected in poultry in the Tula region, west of the Urals in the European partof Russia.

    "The presence of the antigen and genetic material of the H5N1 subtype of the virus has been detected in samples taken from sick birds in the a village of the Tula region," the Federal Veterinaryand Phytosanitary Control Service said in a report, cited by the Interfax news agency. Enditem
