M6.2 earthquake jolts Tokyo

    TOKYO, Oct. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- A fairly strong earthquake measuring 6.2 on the Richter scale hit Wednesday evening Tokyo and surrounding area.

    The quake, which occurred at around 8:44 p.m. (1144 GMT), was also measured a maximum intensity of lower 5 on the seven-level Japanese seismic scale, according to the Japanese Meteorological Agency.

    The epicenter was at the Ibaraki prefecture north of Tokyo.

    The agency said there is no fear for a tsunami.
