Kashmir minister killed in militant attack

    NEW DELHI, Oct. 18 (Xinhuanet) -- Indian-controlled Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Education Gulam Nabi Lone was killed Tuesday when heavily armed militants attacked his house in the high security Tulsibagh area in Srinagar, capital of the Indian-controlled region, according to Press Trust of India.

    Two security personnel and a militant were also killed and a civilian injured in the attack which took place at around 9 a.m. local time.

    Officials said two heavily armed militants firing indiscriminately and lobbing grenades first tried to enter the house of CPI(M) MLA Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami.

    After being challenged by security personnel there, they barged into the neighboring house of Lone and killed him. Enditem
