BAGHDAD, Oct. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- Initial counting
showed that more than 90 percent of voters in six Iraqi provinces said "Yes" to
the constitution in Saturday's referendum, local press reported Monday.
"More than 90 percent voters in six provinces said
'Yes' to the constitution. They are Basra, Karbala, Misan, Najaf, Dhi Qar and
Wasit," electoral officials were quoted by the National Iraqi News Agency (NINA)
as saying.
However, the Sunni-dominant Salahudin province was
obviously against the charter with more than 80 percent of its voters saying
"No", according to NINA.
The officials said the turnout was 72 percent of
those registered in Babil, 63 in Basra, 85 in Duhuk, 66 in Diyala, 90 in Irbil,
58 in Karbala, 57 in Misan, 58 in Muthana, 56 in Najaf, 56 in Qadissiyah, 88 in
Salahudin, 75 in Sulaimaniyah, 54 in Thi Qarand 54 in Wasit.
The turnout rates of Iraq's other four provinces --
Baghdad, Ninevah, Anbar and Kirkuk -- are not known yet.
Official results are expected next week. Enditem
