ISLAMABAD, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- A baby girl was
rescued Sunday from the debris eight days after the Pakistani earthquake,
Pakistani military said.
"Our soldiers rescued the baby from the debris in Sanger village near Balakot, a town in northern part of the
country eightdays after the big earthquake," Maj. Gen. Shaukat Sultan, the chief
army spokesman said.
The girl is in good condition, but her age is not
known now, the spokesman added.
Two brothers of the girl led the soldiers to the
damaged house to rescue their sister.
The devastating 7.6-magnitude earthquake shook
northern Pakistan has left 39,422 dead, 65,038 injured, and 3.3 million
homeless, the government said Sunday.
Pakistani government and the international community
have carried out relief works in the quake-stricken areas. But due to the
damaged roads and communication difficulties, it is hard for relief teams and
goods to reach some outlying places which partly led to the rising of the death
toll. Enditem |
