TOKYO, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale shook Tokyo and its surrounding prefectures Sunday afternoon in eastern Japan.
The quake, which occurred at around 4:05 p.m. (0705 GMT), was strongly felt in all 23 districts of Tokyo. There is no death or injury reported so far and no tsunami warning was issued either.
Japanese Meteorological Agency put the epicenter of the major earthquake at Tokyo's neighboring Ibaraki Prefecture. The focus of the earthquake was estimated at about 40 km under earth surface.
The earthquake is also measured a maximum intensity of 4 on the seven-level Japanese seismic scale, the agency said.
The subway and train traffic in Tokyo suspended at the quake time and resumed shortly after. Enditem |
