BAGHDAD, Oct. 15 (Xinhuanet) -- An Iraqi voter died of wounds after being shot by insurgent sniper as he was heading to a voting station in western Baghdad on Saturday, an Interior Ministry source said.
"A sniper opened fire at a policeman near a school in Baghdad's western district of Ghazaliyah, but he missed the target and seriously wounded a civilian who was heading to a voting station in the area," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
The voter was taken to Yarmouk Hospital, but he died immediately, the source said.
In a separate incident, a woman voter was injured in Ghazaliyah when Iraqi security forces opened fire at a suspected car, the source said.
"Armed men in a civilian car traded fire with security forces in Ghazaliyah after they were ordered to stop but they refused," the source said.
"A woman who was heading to a polling center in the district was wounded by the crossfire," the source added. Enditem |
