ANKARA, Oct. 14 (Xinhuanet) -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that there was no single bird flu case diagnosed in human beings in Turkey, the semi-official Anatolia News Agency said Friday.

Speaking at the headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development Party, Erdogan called on the citizens to stay calm and said the media had exaggerated the issue.

"This (bird flu) is one of the routine diseases in the world, there is no extraordinary situation," said Erdogan.

There was no single person who was diagnosed to have contracted bird flu in Turkey nine days following the emergence of bird flu on Oct. 5, said Erdogan, stressing that all sorts of measures had been taken against the possibility of spreading of bird flu.

The H5N1 virus was first seen in Turkey when a total of 1,800 turkeys died in a farm near Bird Sanctuary National Park in Manyastown of Balikesir province starting from Oct. 1. Turkey has culled 8,500 poultry and eastablished quarantine zones in the region to stop the spread of the bird flu. Enditem
