BELGRADE, Serbia-Montenegro, Oct. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Talks on the final status of the Serbian province of Kosovo is expected to openin November, US Undersecretary for Political Affairs Nicholas Burns said in Pristina on Thursday.

Meeting Kosovo Serb political representatives in Pristina, Burns said that the United States would appoint its representative who will work together with the UN envoy on status talks, the official Tanjug news agency reported.

Burns, who was on a Balkan tour, said that the United States would not back any of the solutions currently in option, unless itis agreed by both the Serbs and the ethnic Albanians.

Kosovo has been run by the United Nations since June 1999. Kosovo's authorities have demanded an outright independence, which is opposed by Belgrade whose solution is "more than autonomy, lessthan independence."

Burns pledged that NATO would do everything to prevent a repeat of the March 2004 violence against the Serbs in Kosovo.

He said that no one will have the right to a veto during the talks and that if anyone leaves the talks, the process would continue. Enditem
