Trial of "Vukovar Three" begins in The Hague

    BRUSSELS, Oct. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The trial of three former Yugoslav army officers began Tuesday in The Hague tribunal, Radio Netherlands reported.

    The defendants, known as "the Vukovar Three," are charged with the murder of more than 260 people, most of them Croats, in the Croatian city of Vukovar in 1991.

    The victims were thought to be taken from a hospital in Vukovarand killed outside the city. The killers were eventually captured by the Yugoslav army and Serb paramilitaries following a three-month siege shortly after Croatia declared independence from Yugoslavia.

    But the three defendants have all pleaded not guilty. The trialis expected to last at least six months. Enditem
