Forbidden City celebrates 80th anniversary

Oct. 10, 2005 is the 80th anniversary of the founding of China's Palace Museum, which was set up on Oct. 10, 1925 in the Imperial Palace, or Forbidden City, of ancient China's Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911) dynasties. The museum boasts of 220,000 art works of ancient dynasties and cultural relics of royal courts, 8,000 of whom are state-level cultural relics. Covering an area of 720,000 square meters and having more than 9,000 rooms, the Imperial Palace is the largest and best preserved example of classical architecture in China. (Xinhua)
