BAGHDAD, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- A convoy of the Arab League was attacked by gunmen in western Baghdad, police said on Monday.

"The delegation were attacked outside the headquarters of the Association of the Muslim Scholars, then the delegation escaped to the headquarters, which is a mosque," an interior ministry source told Xinhua.

"There are some casualties among their bodyguards," he added.

"The US troops came after they heard the gunshots, and the insurgents attacked them on the road. Two Humvees were destroyed, but their casualties were unknown," the source said.

The attack came one day after the AL delegation arrived in Iraqto prepare for a visit by AL chief Amr Moussa.

Moussa is tasked with helping bridge gaps between Iraq's Shiites and Sunni Arabs over a draft constitution whose fate will be decided in a referendum on Oct. 15.  Enditem
