Germany's conservatives have reached a deal with the Social Democrats (SPD) under which conservative leader Angela Merkel will become the country's next chancellor, German media reports said on Monday.

    BERLIN, Oct. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- German conservative leader Angela Merkel will be the next German chancellor after Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's Social Democrats made compromise, the German news agency DPA quoted sources as saying on Monday.
