Hamas considering quit following-up committee: spokesman
www.chinaview.cn 2005-10-08 19:47:22

GAZA, Oct. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said on Saturday that his movement is considering the possibility of quitting the highest following-up committee which groups 13 major Palestinian factions.

Abu Zuhri said that the consideration came under the committee's retraction and prejudice against its role in dealing with the current deteriorating security situation.

The committee issued a written statement after a meeting on Wednesday night, blaming Hamas for the Oct. 2 armed clashes with Gaza police trying to impose an arms ban.

Hamas has considered the statement unacceptable, saying it doesn't represent the committee.

The statement was made during a meeting without presence of Hamas, so it couldn't represent the will of the whole committee, Abu Zuhri said. Enditem
