JERUSALEM, Oct. 8 (Xinhua(Source: China Daily)) -- Israeli Foreign Minister
Silvan Shalom said Saturday that Egypt is not doing enough to prevent the flow
of weapons from its territory into the Palestinian National Authority through
the Rafah crossing bordering Gaza Strip.
In an interview with Israel Radio, Shalom said Israel is very disturbed by
the development and expressed hope that Egypt would act with greater
determination.
Shalom also opposes further arming the PNA with more weapons, saying
Palestinians don't have an ammunition problem but their problem is a lack of
will to make a strategic decision to fight Hamas.
The Israeli official, meanwhile, emphasized that there would be no more
unilateral withdrawals and Israel would not lose more assets without receiving
anything in return.
Meanwhile, Israel Radio reported Saturday that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon
will consult with vice premier Shimon Peres and Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz
after Sunday weekly cabinet meeting over Israel's position on arrangements
governing the Rafah crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip.
The meeting is slated to determine Israel's stance on the freedom of
movement of people and goods as well as whether to accommodate the flow through
another two nearby crossings. Enditem |
