NEW DELHI, Oct. 8 (Xinhuanet) -- At least six people were killed and 87 injured in northern India-controlled Kashmir in a 7.6-scale earthquake that hit Pakistan and north India Saturday morning, according to NDTV.

    ;The road between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad was blocked by landslide and houses were reported collapse in India-control Kashmir.

    The earthquake was scaled 6.8 in the Richer scale by the Indian Meteorological Department and 7.6 by the US Geological Survey. The epicenter was located 70 km away from Muzaffarabad of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir and 95 km from Pakistan captial Islambad.

    The first tremor was felt at 9:25 a.m. Saturdya in India-controlled Kashmir, north India's Uttaranchal, Punjab, Rajasthan, west India's Gujarat and the capital city Delhi.

    Strong quakes have driven people out of their homes in Srinagar in India-controlled Kashmir.

    High rise buildings were left particularly shaken by the tremor lasting for about minutes in Delhi.

    According to Indo-Asian News Service, at least 40 people were feared killed and several injured when a 10-storey residential building in Islambad collapsed following the earthquake Saturday morning.

    In Pakistan, the earthquake rocked major cities of Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, Quetta, Rawalpindi and other parts of country on Saturday morning.

    The quake shook buildings of Islamabad, capital of Pakistan, for about one minute at around 8:55 a.m. The water tank on the top of the office building of the Xinhua branch spilled out on the roof.

    According to a Xinhua reporter on the spot, residents in Islamabad ran out of houses to stay in the open air.

    Many houses collapsed in the northern Pakistani districts of Kohistan and Batgram and an unknown number of people injured were rushed to hospital, the reports said.

    At least eight people were injured in Lahore, the capital of Punjab province.  Enditem
