BRUSSELS, Oct. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- Canada is the most desirable country to live in and its city Vancouver is the most attractive destination in the world, according to a survey by the London-based Economist Intelligence Unit.

Melbourne, Vienna, Geneva and Perth were ranked second to fifth on the list of the world's most ideal cities, Belgian media quoted the survey as saying Wednesday.

The survey looked at the "liveability" of 127 cities around the world by assessing stability, health care, culture, environment, education and infrastructure of the cities. Each got a percentage and the lowest score defined the most agreeable place to live, according to the survey.

"In the current global political climate, it is no surprise that the most desirable destinations are those with a lower perceived threat of terrorism," report editor Jon Copestake said.

Cities in Switzerland, Canada, Australia and Austria are the most ideal destinations thanks to a widespread availability of goods and services, low personal risk and an effective infrastructure.

"with low crime, little threat from instability or terrorism and a highly developed infrastructure, Canada has the most liveable destinations in the world," the report said.

Brussels was placed joint twentieth in the pecking order, along with Oslo in Norway, Auckland and Wellington in New Zealand, Germany's Berlin and Japan's Osaka, Kobe.

The least attractive cities are the Algerian capital of Algiersand Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, both sharing the 126th place, the survey said. Enditem
