www.chinaview.cn 2005-10-04 23:48:16

RAMALLAH, Oct. 4 (Xinhuanet) -- A Palestinian woman shot dead after stabbing a female Israeli soldier on Tuesday in the northern West Bank was a member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the dominant Fatah, the militant group confirmed.

The group said that the 37-year-old Haiyfa Hendeya from the northern West Bank city of Nablus stabbed a female Israeli soldier at Hewara military checkpoint outside Nablus.

Residents in Nablus said that Hendeya is married and has five children.

Israel Radio reported that a Palestinian woman approached a female soldier at the checkpoint and stabbed her in the face.

The knife-wielding woman was shot in her legs by other soldiers before trying to stab the female soldier again.

An Israeli ambulance evacuated the moderately wounded soldier from the scene for treatment, while the Palestinian woman was left bleeding on the ground until she died. Enditem
