LUXEMBOURG, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The European Union (EU) foreign ministers' meeting decided on Monday to impose arms embargo against Uzbekistan, a conclusion document issued by the meeting said here in Luxembourg.

"In light of the excessive, disproportionate and indiscriminateuse of force by the Uzbek security forces during the Andijan events, the (EU) Council has decided to impose an embargo on exports to Uzbekistan of arms, military equipment and other equipment that might be used for internal repression," said the document.

In the meantime, the EU also decided to implement restrictions on admission to the EU aimed at those individuals directly responsible for the "indiscriminate and disproportionate use of force" in Andijan.

The ministers also decided to immediately suspend all scheduled technical meetings under the EU-Uzbekistan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement.

According to the document, the EU will implement the above measures for an initial period of one year, but they could be extended if Uzbekistan continues to refuse an independent international inquiry into the Andijan events in May.

The EU also criticized the Uzbekistan government over human rights abuses. Enditem
