LOS ANGELES, Oct. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- "Flightplan" continued to fly high at the weekend box office in North American theaters, estimates released Sunday show.
The Jodie Foster thriller about a mother who loses her child onan airplane remained in first place with an expected gross of 15 million dollars in its second weekend in release, according to Los Angeles-based Exhibitor Relations Co. Inc.
Hollywood's fall season saw a fast start in much of the past month but slowed this weekend, as the frame's new movies failed to fuel much enthusiasm among audience.
The debut of the sci fi adventure "Serenity" came in second, grossing 10.1 million dollars.
"Tim Burton's Corpse Bride" dropped from second to third, grossing 9.8 million dollars, while "A History of Violence" was fourth with 8.2 million dollars and "Into the Blue" debuted in fifth with 7 million dollars.
The weekend's top 12 films grossed an estimated 75.3 million dollars, which is down 14.35 percent from last weekend and down 26 percent from the same period last year.
