GAZA, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) - The Palestinian Council for National Security decided on Monday to be in a state of open-ended meetings to investigate Sunday clashes between Hamas militants and Palestinian police forces.

Calmness dominated Gaza City Monday following Sunday night heavy armed clashes between Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)militants and Palestinian police forces in the city, where three Palestinians were killed and 50 others wounded.

The three, a Palestinian police major, a woman and a 22-year-old young bystander, were killed in Shatti refugee camp west of Gaza City when Hamas militants fired R.B.G shoulder missiles at police stations.

The Palestinian Interior Ministry condemned the clashes and blamed Hamas movement for being responsible for these acts.

Tawfik Abu Khousa, the ministry spokesman, told the "Voice of Palestine" radio that the police arrived at the scene to resolve a dispute between two people quarreling in front of a cash money machine in the Gaza City.

He added that the Hamas member who was identified as MohamedRanteesi, son of Abdel Aziz Ranteesi who was assassinated by Israel in Gaza in May 2004, called other Hamas activists over the phone to come to the scene.

Hamas members then arrived at the scene and clashed with the police using hand grenades and RPG's.

An official statement accused Hamas members of obstructing theduty of Palestinian policemen, as well as targeting several police stations around the Gaza City with bombs, rocket-propelled grenades (RPG) and heavy gunfire.

"Hamas holds the full responsibility for breaking the law andorder, and for destruction of public properties as well as assaulting large number of civilians, including children," said the statement of the Interior Ministry.

Meanwhile, a statement issued by the Ezel Dein al Qassam Brigades, Hamas armed wing, said that there was a group of people in PNA is trying to uproot Hamas, and was pushing towards confrontations.

Al-Qassam statement accused the Interior Ministry by forging realities, clarifying that police force stopped a local car outside the Beach Refugee camp, and asked some Hamas militants (where Rantisi was with them) to show their IDs.

The militants refused to obey the police orders, the police officers opened fire at the car to stop it, where more Hamas militants were called and arrived at the scene and clashed with the police.

The statement added that the Qassam Brigades will remain faithful to the blood of martyrs and will not be drawn into internal conflict with the (PNA) and its weapons will always be pointed at the Zionist enemy.

Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masari told reporters that the incidents' purpose was to tarnish the Hamas' image. "We will protect the Palestinian blood, we still stick to the Palestinian unity, from the moment the clashes erupted we have been negotiating to calm the situation," al-Masari said. Enditem
