BAGHDAD, Oct. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Insurgents attacked a convoy carrying Iraqi Oil Minister Ibrahim Bahr al-Uloum in Baghdad on Monday, killing three of his bodyguards and wounding another two.The minister escaped unharmed, interior ministry sources said.

According to the sources, the attack occurred near the town of Taji, 25 km north of Baghdad, when the minister's convey was passing by. The convoy was hit by a roadside bomb, followed by gunmen's attack with small arms.

Bombings, assassinations and kidnappings are rampant in the war-ravaged country as sectarian tensions are running high.

In the weekend, Iraqi interior minister's brother Jebbar Jabr Solagh was kidnapped by gunmen while driving home in the capital. He was released late. Enditem
