MEXICO CITY, Oct. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Tropical storm Stan touched down in Mexico's Yucatan peninsula early Sunday.

Stan, on its way to the Gulf of Mexico, was moving inland west-northwest across the Yucatan peninsula at about 19 kph, civil protection officials said.

A tropical storm warning was issued for the eastern part of the peninsula.

There were no immediate reports of damages, said officials.

Meteorologists forecasted 13-25 centimeters of rain (5-10 inches) in the Yucatan Peninsula and north Belize.

Stan could reach the Gulf of Mexico by Monday, where it was projected to gather strength again and possibly become a hurricane, officials said.

Meanwhile, Otis, once a category-one hurricane, weakened to wind speeds of about 70 kph off Mexico's Baja California peninsula by Sunday.

The hurricane season for the Atlantic Ocean is to end on Nov. 30. Enditem
