LONDON, Oct. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- British Prime Minister Tony Blair has condemned the latest Bali bombings, which killed at least 32 people, and expressed his full support for the Indonesian government in its fight against terrorism.
"I condemn in the strongest terms (the) appalling attacks in Bali. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families," Blair said in a statement on Saturday.
"(Indonesian) President (Susilo Bambang) Yudhoyono and I agreed when we met in New York last month on the absolute importance of working together to defeat the scourge of terrorism," said Blair.
"The UK was deeply grateful for and moved by the support and sympathy given by the Indonesian government and people after the attacks in July in London. The British government stands ready to help in any way we can," Blair added.
According to the Sky news, no Britons have been listed among those killed or seriously injured.
Saturday's series bombings, which pounded the three beach-side seafood restaurants 100 meters apart in the fishing village of Jimbaran in Bali, also left more than 100 people injured.
Immediately after the first blast, at least one other bombing tore through the Raja restaurant 30 km away in the shopping district of Kuta, the scene of the 2002 bombings.
The militant Islamic group Jemaah Islamiyah was held responsible for the bombings that occurred less than two weeks ahead of the third anniversary of blasts on Oct. 12, 2002, which killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists. Enditem |
