BEIJING, Sept. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese government held a grand reception on Friday in the capital Beijing to mark the 56th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China ahead of national day celebrations on Saturday.

President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao joined other leaders and about 1500 representatives at the reception in the Great Hall of the People in the centre of the capital.

Premier Wen Jiabao said at the banquet that China has found its right path for a socialism with Chinese character. Reforms and opening-up should continue to lead the country's development.

Meanwhile, in the country's steadfast drive for economic reforms and establishing socialist economic systems, reforms on political, cultural and public administration should be actively promoted, the Premier noted.

He added that the Chinese government will join hands with compatriots in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in maintaining the long-term stability and prosperity and the country's peaceful reunification. Enditem
