Typhoon Longwang likely to disturb golden week
www.chinaview.cn 2005-09-30 10:29:09

BEIJING, Sept. 30 -- Typhoon Longwang may bring fickle weather to Shenzhen during the weeklong National Day holidays, according to the city's observatory.

The spell of cloudy and rainy weather brought by Typhoon Damrey ended Tuesday.

The sky began to clear up Wednesday as South China came under influence of a trough of high pressure.

Shenzhen's weather will remain sunny and hot from Friday to Saturday.

However, the sunny weather might not last long as Typhoon Longwang, the 19th typhoon this year, was expected to bring wind and rains to the city in the middle of the golden week, the city observatory said.

As of Thursday, the typhoon was still over 2,000 kilometers away from Taiwan and moving westward in the northwest of the Pacific Ocean.

Under the joint influence of a trough of high pressure and the surrounding airstreams of Longwang, the city was expected to turn hazy with temperatures ranging from 27 to 34 degrees Celsius on Saturday and Sunday.

As South China will come under the influence of the typhoon's surrounding airstreams and a cold northern airstream Monday, Shenzhen was expected to see clouds and rain.

The minimum temperature in the city was expected to drop to 22 degrees Celsius and the maximum at 26 Tuesday.

The weather would improve with temperatures going up when the city comes under influence of a trough of high pressure from Oct. 5 to 6.

The maximum temperature would rise to 31 degrees Oct. 7.

The city's observatory was closely watching the movement of Longwang and would update its forecast on its Web site www.121.com.cn.
