NEW DELHI, Sept. 29 (Xinhuanet) -- Twenty two people were killed and 28 injured when a bus fell into a gorge in Mahore belt of Udhampur district of Indian-controlled Kashmir Thursday evening, Press Trust of India reported.

The ill-fated bus, which was on its way to Tatapani area in Rajouri district, turned turtle and rolled down the hill, falling into a 100-meter deep gorge at Manzil area in Mahore-Damkund belt around 17:40 local time, PTI said quoting a senior superintendent of police, Gareb Dass.

According to initial reports, 22 passengers were killed and 28 others injured, most of them critically, he said, adding the toll is likely to go up.

"We flashed messages to border guards BSF and army to carry out rescue operation as it is a remote area," Dass said, adding that some local people and BSF troops have evacuated some injured passengers from the spot and rushed them to hospital in the nearby areas. Enditem
